15' Tied Universal Expansion Joint with Slotted Hinges for a Refinery Unit

This tied universal expansion joint is 18 inches in diameter and 15′ in overall length. The expansion joint is fabricated with an Inconel® 800 bellows, 316H stainless steel pipe and 304H stainless steel tie rods and slotted hinges. The design pressure is 65 PSIG at 1076ºF. A hydro-test at 127 PSIG was performed as well as dye-penetrant testing to ensure product quality.

36" Tied Universal Expansion Joint for a Petrochemical Plant

U.S. Bellows Inc. designed and fabricated a 36″ tied universal expansion joint for a petrochemical plant in Kuwait. The expansion joint measures 36″ in diameter x 318″ from center of elbow to face of flange. It is fabricated from 316H stainless steel with Inconel® 800 bellows. The design pressure of the expansion joint is 65 PSIG, and the design temperature is 1076ºF. It is designed for axial compression within the tie rods and lateral movement of 3.02″. Hydro-testing was performed at 98 PSIG to assure the integrity of the tie rods and also to assure quality. The pictures show the expansion joint leaving the shop on its way to the customer. The stainless steel flange faces are protected with 3/4″ plywood during delivery.

50 Universal Expansion Joints for an Air Force Base in New Mexico

U.S. Bellows, Inc. fabricated 50 expansion joints from 304L stainless steel. The expansion joints were 6″ and 8″ sizes. The 6″ expansion joints are 24″ face-to-face and the 8″ expansion joints are 26″ face-to-face. All of the expansion joints are fabricated with liners that are also made with 304L stainless steel. The design temperature was 200°F and the design pressure was 200 PSIG. The expansion joints were dye-penetrant tested and hydro-tested at 300 PSIG. U.S. Bellows, Inc. provides 100% customer satisfaction in terms of quality and delivery.

Expansion Joints for an Epoxy Resin Plant in Saudi Arabia

U.S. Bellows, Inc. designed and fabricated a 32″ universal expansion joint and 3″ single expansion joints to be utilized in a new epoxy resin plant in Saudi Arabia. The expansion joints are fabricated with stainless steel bellows and carbon and stainless steel flanges. The 32″ expansion joint has a design temperature of 482ºF with a design pressure of 15 PSIG. The 3″ single expansion joints have a design temperature of 400ºF with a design pressure of 370 PSIG.

The flanges on the 32″ universal expansion joint were custom fabricated to the customer’s special design requirements. One end of the 32″ expansion joint has a stainless steel custom machined flange with a grooved facing. The other end has a carbon steel lap joint flange. Each expansion joint was 100% dye-penetrant tested as well as hydro-tested.

U.S. Bellows designed and fabricated several single and universal expansion joints for a 12″ pipe size. The single joint has an axial movement of 1 3/8″ and the universal joint has a 2 1/2″ lateral movement. The design pressure is 276 PSIG and the design temperature is 626°F.

Both single and universal expansion joints have 316L SS bellows, flanges and tie rods. These expansion joints have 300 pound raised face stainless steel flanges and are designed to accommodate the customers’ low spring rate requirements. Each expansion joint was 100% dye-penetrant tested and hydro-tested at 414 PSIG. U.S. Bellows completed this expansion joint project ahead of schedule.

This tied universal expansion joint is designed to carry hot gas up to temperatures of 1022ºF and pressure up to 5 PSIG. It has a 66″ inside diameter and is 72″ in overall length. The design movements are 4″ lateral and 4.5″ axial compression. The bellows’ material is Inconel® 825 with carbon steel weld ends. The bellows and pipe longitudinal weld seams were 100% x-rayed prior to a 5 PSIG air test and then dye-penetrant examined after testing.

One of U.S. Bellows’ customer’s existing expansion joints failed and caused a plant shut down. They required an immediate replacement joint. This universal expansion joint order was placed, designed and fabricated in just one day. The order came in at 8:30 am on Saturday, Labor Day weekend and was shipped at 4:00 pm, which minimized the time of the plant shut down. This universal expansion joint is 96″ in overall length, 20″  inside diameter and can absorb 3.25″ lateral movement. A 100% dye-penetration test and a hydro-test were performed to ensure quality.

These pictures display one of many tied universal expansion joints in a large order of expansion joints designed by U.S. Bellows, Inc. for a local engineering and construction company. These expansion joints weigh 1,600 lbs. each and are 10 inches in diameter. They are designed for 611 PSIG and temperatures up to 180°F. These expansion joints are fabricated from 321 carbon steel pipe, tie rods and 300 lb. RF weld neck flanges. The bellows longitudinal seams were 100% x-rayed and the complete assembly was hydro-tested to 917 PSIG to ensure a quality product and performance. The units were shipped with the mating flanges bolted to the end of the assembly.

Tied Universal Expansion Joint

U.S. Bellows, Inc. custom designed and manufactured a 60” diameter and 120” long universal expansion joint for a chemical plant in Louisiana.

This metallic expansion joint was fabricated from 304 stainless steel bellows and carbon steel. It was designed for 10PSIG and 550°F. To ensure quality a 100% dye-penetrant, radiography and soap leak test was preformed prior to shipment.
